Know where that comes from?
Well, apparently (picture me as a history teacher) it's a term that was used for American troops sometimes around the Independence war of Mexico. As the war was developing American troops wandered across the Río Grande to see what was going on, all wearing fancy green uniforms. As the Mexixans didn't want them there, a common phrase of protest became "Green Go!" .... hence Gringo. [lecture done]
